It looks like I need to go pick a sheet of plywood and some rigid insulation. My trailer is not long enough and just a hair too narrow to support a 4x8 sheet, so I need some supports. Last time I used a couple of 2x4s, but they moved around and the wood went wonky. This time I took some scraps and cut slots in them so the scraps would lock onto the sides of the trailer. Observe!
I intend to trim the leng th just a little bit and then they will be ready to use!

I had the same issue with my Explorer Sport Trac (obviously since the bed was like 4' long (maybe) but was 4' wide over the wheel wells . I used 2x4's to make a stand for the tailgate and put a couple blocks in the front corner so I could bear on all that and the wheel wells. People shit on short beds, but for the occasional use and a little effort, it works great.

My little Mazda had notches in the bed for 2x4 crossbars. With those in place, a 4x8 sheet would fit in the bed just over the wheel wells and sit flat when the tailgate was down. When the engineers think of how people actually use their vehicles, they can come up with some great ideas.
I see a lot of people building crazy supports for sheets of plywood, but this is all the Ford/Mazda guys really need:
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

That’s pretty darn smart. With a topper on you could also use that as supports for a camping bed with storage Und er it

I’m still on a Ranger/Explorer/B-series/ and previously
Courier/ Mazda
REPU
sabbatical(5 years)
after owning a few
more than I care to admit. But I really think they are the
perfect pickup. Very few frills, and tougher than roaches.

Mine second one was retired at 269,000 miles. Good trucks.
